Set Free

Keys and locks have a lot of significance to me. Currently, I work at a prison and part of my responsibility is to control who has access to the area that I work in. My primary task is to the safety and security of the citizens outside of the prison and next, the safety and security of staff and inmates. Countless times a day I lock and unlock doors, cabinets, and closets. To one person, a locked lock is safety and security but to another, it may be bondage, restriction, and imprisonment.
When I saw the photo of this huge old, rusty lock that was unlocked, it seemed to shout to me, “Set Free!”
This unlocked lock seemed to me to represent freedom; freedom from a dark past, a long time of being locked away, but now hanging on an open door into the light.
